Studying Qur’aan and Arabic in the west.

As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh. May Allah have mercy upon me,
you and all of the Muslims.

After one of our classes with Ash-Shaykh Hasan Abdul-Wahhaab Al-Bannaa, may Allah preserve
him and his family upon good. I asked him a question that was asked of me.

Question: In America we have individuals who teach Tajweedul-Qur’aan (rules of reciting Al-Qur’aan) and Al-Lughatul-Arabiyyah (the Arabic language).
These individuals are not upon this blessed da’wah, Ad-Da’watus-Salafiyyah. Are we
able to sit with these individuals and learn what they are teaching (Qur’aan and Arabic).

Answer: Sitting with these individuals is allowed, if it is a dire need, and a
necessity. Learn from them, At-Tajweed and Arabic, and nothing else. Sit with
them and leave from their sittings after you have learned these two sciences and
do not learn Al-Aqeedah (The Creed/Doctrine of Al-Islaam) or Al-Manhajj (The
correct way of adhering to Al-Islaam and implementing As-Sunnah). Once again
as long as it is necessary. I understand the condition of the Muslims in
America. May Allah make it easy upon you all.

Later Ash-Shaykh Hasan advised us outside. To study Al-Aqeedah and At-Tawheed
(To single Allah out with all acts of worship). He stressed us to learn Al-Aqeedah and At-Tawheed, he
expressed this several times. He than said, “this is what separates us from
Al-Kufaar (the disbelievers) and Al-Kufr (disbelief). This is what makes us
different from them. Our Aqeedah and our understanding of At-Tawheed. We must
raise the banner of Al-Islaam, by learning At-Tawheed and teaching it and
spreading it. He than said, May Allah guide you all to Khayr (Good). May
Allah preserve the Shaykh and accept his efforts in trying to teach us. Ameen.

The Fast of Yaumu Aashooraa’ when it occurs on Yaumus-Sabt. Al-Imaams Al-Albaaniyy and Ibn Baaz

The Fast of Yaumu Aashooraa’ when it occurs on Yaumus-Sabt.
Al-Imaams Al-Albaaniyy and Ibn Baaz (May Allah bestow His tremendous mercy upon them both).

A statement by Al-Imaam Al-Al-Baaniyy (May Allah bestow His enormous mercy upon him): Regarding the suitability of fasting Aashooraa’ (Yaumus-Sabt (Saturday)).
Here the problem is solved which is distant from the minds of many of the people in the example of the suitability: Yaumu Aashooraa’ (The 10th day of Al-Muharram) when it is (on) Yaumus-Sabt (Saturday): Allah’s Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him and his family) had said concerning Yaumus-Sabt in the sound narration: ((Do not fast Yaumus-Sabt except for what is obligatory upon you, and if not one of you finds anything except the bark of a tree, then indeed hold on to it with your teeth)).

The proof: That the Prophet (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him and his family) prohibited in this sound narration with regards to fasting Yaumus-Sabt absolutely except for that which is obligatory, like (fasting) the month of Ramadhaan – when performing an action and carrying out a task, otherwise – with the likely of disagreement and dispute – As the Muslim who vows by it. When he vowed to fast an entire month, or that he will fast an entire week. It becomes an obligatory duty upon him that he fasts this month or this week.

As for what is not obligatory upon him, similar to what we are in right now regarding fasting Aashooraa’ – you know that it is an expiation for the previous year, but it is not obligatory. Just like Arafah, perhaps it comes about that it is on Yaumus-Sabt, does one fast? No, he doesn’t fast, except in that which is obligatory upon you – The narration is clear-

The Ruling of Fasting Yaumu Aashooraa’ when it occurs (on) Yaumus-Sabt, by Al-Allaamah Ibn Baaz (May Allah bestow His enormous mercy upon him)
When Yaumu Aashoora occurs on Yaumus-Sabt, it is permissible for us to fast (upon that day)?

There is no prohibition or wrongdoing that people fast Yaumus-Sabt absolutely concerning obligatory and voluntarily. The narration which in it prohibits from fasting Yaumus-Sabt is a weak invalid hadeeth, contradictory to the sound narrations. Therefore, it is no problem that the Muslim fasts Yaumus-Sabt, whether it was because of an obligation or voluntarily. Even if he didn’t fast with other than it, the narration which prohibits fasting Yaumus-Sabt except by that which is obligatory is unsound narration. Rather it is weak and distorted, in opposition to the sound narrations.

Fasting Aashooraa’, along with a day before it and/or a day after it.

Fasting Aashooraa’, along with a day before it and/or a day after it.

It is established concerning the desirability of fasting Aashooraa’ and it is the 10th day of Al-Muharram. Verily, his statement (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him and his family): ((This is the day of Aashooraa’, Allah did not write (obligate) upon you to fast upon it, and I fast. So whoever wills (to fast) then he fasts, and whoever wills (not to fast) he then breaks his fast)).

Fasting Aashooraa’ expiates and removes (sins) of the previous year. Verily, his statement (Allah’s peace and blessing upon him and his family): ((Fasting the day of Aashooraa’, I deem by Allah that it expiates (sins) of the year which was before it)).

It is desired to precede it by fasting a day before it and it is the 9th day of Al-Muharram. On account of the narration of Ibn Abbaas (May Allah be pleased with him and his father), he said: ((When Allah’s Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him and his family) fasted the day of Aashooraa’, he ordered with fasting it. They said: Oh Messenger of Allah, indeed it is a day honoured by the Jews and Christians, therefore Allah’s Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessing s be upon him and his family) said: ((So, if the following year comes to be – If Allah Allows – we will fast the 9th day)). He said: it was not until the following year that Allah’s Messenger passed away (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him).

In a narration: ((If I remain (live) to the coming year, surely I will fast the 9th)).

Just as, it is beloved to him that one fast a day after it (Aashooraa’); and it is the 11th day. As it was narrated in a sound narration Maqooof (a narration which is attributed to a companion of Allah’s Messenger), from Ibn Abbaas (May Allah be pleased with him and his father), his statement: ((They fasted the 10th day (Aashooraa’). They differentiated from the Jews, they fasted (a day) before it (Aashooraa’) or a day after it)).
Al-Haafidh (Al-Asqalaaniyy) (Allah’s mercy upon him) said: ((Fasting Aashooraa’ is upon 3 levels: Its lowest is to fast it (Aashooraa’) alone, and above it, is to fast the 9th along with it (Aashooraa’) and above it, is to fast the 9th and the 11th)).

Fasting The Blessed Day of Aashooraa’

Ash-Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Alyy Farkoos – May Allah preserve him upon good.

What is found in The Month of Allah, Al-Muharram (is) a day of great and lofty importance and prestige. It is the blessed day of Aashooraa’, and it sanctity and sacredness is ancient. Because in it Allah The Most High rescued and delivered Moosaa (peace and blessings upon him) and Banee Israa’eel from the oppression and injustice of Fir’aoun and his army. Allah drowned him and his people. So, it has come in the 2 sound books (Al-Bukhaariyy and Muslim) from the narration of Ibn Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), he said: ((Allah’s Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him, and his family) went to Al-Madeenah and found Al-Yahood (Jews) fasting Yaumul-Aashooraa’. So he said to them: ((What is this day that you are fasting?)). They said: ((This is a great day, Allah saved Moosaa and his people in it, and drowned Fir’aoun and his people. So he (Moosaa) fasted it out of gratitude, therefore we fast it)). So he said: ((We are more deserving and entitled to Moosaa than you)). So he fasted and ordered with fasting it)).

From its graces is that fasting it expiates (sins) from the previous year. Verily, his statement (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and his family): ((I deem that it expiates (sins) the year which was before it)).

It is recommended to fast the 9th. day of Al-Muharram along with it. Because this was his final command (Allah’s peace and blessings upon him, and his family) in which he said: ((If I live to the following (year) I will undoubtedly fast the 9th.)). In opposition to Al-Yahood who used to single it out by fasting (Al-Muharram).
