Menses or Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding? Shaykh Taamir Fatooh (may Allah preserve him upon good).
Question: If a woman exceeds her known time of Haydh (menses); is this from Al-Ayn (evil eye) or Hasad (jealousy)?
Answer: If she has reached or exceeded the specified time of her Haydh, and the blood has changed. It has either become heavier, lighter or has changed its color or scent; then this is from Istahaadhah (Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding). Then it is upon her to perform Wudhoo for every Salaah. Istahaadhah is from the work of shaytawn (1: see below). However, if it is due to Al-Ayn or Hasad, then she should perform Islaamically legislated Ruqyah upon herself until this affair leaves her. Allah knows best.
1) Translator’s note: It has been reported in Saheehul-Bukhaariyy (Allah’s mercy upon him) that Hamnah Bint Jash (may Allah be pleased with her), came to Allah’s Messenger (Allah’s peace and blessings be upon her) in regards to her excessively heavy bleeding after her cycle has ended. She was told that this is a Rakdhah (kick or stomp) from the Rakdhaat (kicks or stomps) of shaytawn. By Allah’s knowledge the duration of the Haydh is 6 or 7 days, and she should wash herself each time she sees this blood until she is pure. Allah knows best.
